Legal and Regulatory Issues (31/1/19)

Q: Evaluate legal and regulatory issues associated with media products

Censorship: Banning certain products

5 films that I think are violent:

1. The Green Inferno
2. Evil Dead (2013)
3. The Human Centipede
4. I Spit On Your Grave

Age Ratings:

  • The Green Inferno: 18 (Cannibalism, violence, gory scenes, murder)
  • Evil Dead: 18 (Detailed gory scenes, violence, murder)
  • The Human Centipede: 18 (Detailed gory scenes, violence, abduction)
  • I Spit On Your Grave: 18 (Rape, murder, gory scenes, violence)

Do I think the ratings for these movies are appropriate?

Yes, I do. These movies are all horror movies and horrors are either rated 15 or 18, depending on the level of violence. Moving on to The Green Inferno. The age rating is very appropriate. When I think of gory horror movies that really made me disgusted and somewhat scared, I think of this movie. The Evil Dead rating is appropriate too, the level of violence and gore is high which is why I think the rating is appropriate. There are very detailed murder scenes, and display scenes that normal people would typically find disgusting and gory. The Human Centipede is known as one of the most disturbing movies to date, depicting scenes that would make anyone shudder as they imagine themselves in that situation. I Spit On Your Grave is also one of the few movies I think of when someone asks me the most disturbing movies I've watched. It isn't so much gory like the other movies listed, but they have very detailed and disturbing scenes involving sexual assult–which made me feel very uncomfortable.
