1. When did advertising on TV begin?
the worlds first official television broadcast was on July 1st, 1941. The company Bulova, a watchmaking company which was founded in 1875, paid the small amount of $9 for a 10-second ad placement on New York station WNBT before the Brooklyn Dodgers vs Philadelphia Phillies baseball game.
2. When did we get satellite and cable TV in the UK?
Unlike the US, who received cable in 1948, the UK first developed cable in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Today, cable television is available to approximately 55% of the population in the UK. The first satellite company that was developed was SkyDigital (now known as SkyTV. Compared to previous services, Sky provided more channels, interactive TV, widescreen, and a near video on demand service. Since the start in 1998, Sky has provided HD and 3D TV, video recording, remote operation, and many more.
3. What is meant by the term 'narrowcast channel'?
Narrowcast channel is the process of sending specific data to a selected or narrower number of people. It enables transmitted data to be delivered to selected individuals, devices and/or equipment. Cable television is an example of narrowcasting because of cable TV signals are sent to homes that have subscribed to the cable service.
